SSLC Results - At a glance

This year SSLC results were published yesterday. Girls from small towns and villages performed extremely well. This is great news.

City students are having more exposure and their studies are highly deviated due to this. They are not utilizing the advantage of the better exposure. One of the reasons is their parent. They are busy and they are not able to spend more time with kids (Including me). Also in city schools teachers are not able to concentrate on individuals due to the strength and due to their busy city life. In contrast to the above, parents and teachers are spending more time on students and the students are not having any distraction.

Five years back, I had a discussion with my family members regarding my future!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to settle in a small town and work as lecturer. My wife was totally against it. She was telling me that kids would do well in studies if they were in the city. I was telling her that the technology is so improved that everyone will know the development happening in any part of the world very fast.

Today the SSLC result shows I am correct. To make it happen, we have to spend time with the kids so that they are properly guided at the early stage.

My father did not like convent studies and he put me in a normal school. If I had studied in a convent I would have been in a better position. This was my feeling when I joined my first job. But it is wrong. I did well in my work at all level.

Club Mahindra - a lesson

I became the Club Mahindra member in April 2003. My wife was not for it. But I was interested in this, as I want to spend time with family. I thought, I would definitely use it as I invested money on it. But I was not able to as I got the off-season membership. It is Blue- Feb. and August of every year. I can use it only one type above that will be during March and Sept. During these periods my kids are having exam.

This year May I went to Shimla for vacation. I saw the Club Mahindra resort in Kufri. But I was not able to use it. In the last three years I was not able to use it once. I have decided to cancel it.

I went to Club Mahindra office to cancel it. They said it is not possible to cancel it. I was wondering because they said I could sell it whenever I want to sell it. Now they are telling that I can transfer it to someone else and I cannot cancel it. I heard that if I cancel my membership I would be loosing 40% of the money. But I do not know what is the rule.

It is my fault that I did not get the complete details before going for it. Once you are a member, you can cancel your membership within 10 days or six months. Otherwise you cannot sell it to Club Mahindra but you can transfer it to others (I do not know how much money to be paid for this).

Now there are options to use it. I can sell my time-share in the open market and get back my money. But my only concern is the sales person did not tell me that I couldn’t sell it to Club Mahindra (I have to read the agreement that the above statement is right or wrong!!!!).

I learned that go through the rules and regulation (it is tough) and get everything clarified before getting into any agreement. This is my second such experience while signing any agreement. First is at Singapore. After knowing the seriousness of the clause I signed the agreement as I was in need of a job immediately. But this was my mistake that I did not go through it and I took decision very fast with out thinking.

Forums an experience

We are using the phpBB for our internal forums. We are facing issues on the performance of the forum. Ever after increasing the RAM we are not able to see any improvement. The issue may be because of the DB model or the query we are using in the application. Or it may be because of the table size. We wanted to fix this.

We used two machines to share the load one for the DB and the other for the client. This did not work out for us. We cached all the pages. Even then it was very slow.

We are going to try clustering. We will be having two servers for the DB synchronized by the master-master concept of mysql and four clients. A load balancer will be used. This may solve our problem.

Shimla Trip

First week of May we went to Shimla, Delhi and Agra. We went by Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla. First time in my life I saw train breakdown. The train was late by three hours. I felt the train journey was very tiring.

It was too cold and it was raining in Shimla. We visited the JAKHOO TEMPLE, Tara Devi Temple. Also we visited Indian Institute of Advanced Studies former Viceregal Lodge.

We visited Sutlej River at Tatapani that is 55 km from Shimla. A dam is going to be constructed there and that area is going to be under water in few years. It was a nice experience to be on the bank of a river. It was rough even though there is less amount of water. I used spend time in Cauvery banks when I was in school. Nowadays there is no water in Cauvery. Even during the AdiPerukku, I am not able to see water in Cavery.

From Shimla we went to Agra. We went to Tajmahal and fort. We went to Lotus temple in Delhi and Zoo. Guru enjoyed the trip and I enjoyed the nine days and this was the first time I spent so much time with my family.

How to improve web traffic?

It is a major task for most of the webmasters to get traffic to their site. The site content is the core for a quality site. The site's position against the various search engines for the targetted keywords plays a vital role in the site traffic. There are various factors to be considered for the search engine optimization.

If the site is listed in the first two pages of the Search Engine Result Position (SERP) the traffic to the site will increase. By following the below steps one can improve the SERP.

File Name

• Provide proper file name. Use keywords in the file name.
• In the file name, use hyphen in between words instead of under score.
• The file name should be in lowercase.
• Do not use abrevated words in the file names.
  • Wrong usage - applications-mgmt.html
  • Correct Usage- applications-management.html
• All files should have the extension of .html

Title

• Check the title for the targeted keyword - exact keyword
• The number of words in the title should not exceed 8 words or 80 charecters including spaces
• Optimize the title for more keywords than any marketing words
• Make sure that the title is complete. (do not dump keywords) Title tag should be as close to a readable sentance as possible to avoid problems.
  
• Do not capture the Company name in the title.
• Place the keywords at the begining of the Tag.
  
• Each webpage should have its own title tag with its own keywords that related to the page.
  

Heading

• The Heading should be under H1 Tag.(Do not use font, bold tags in the heading)
• Capture the exact targeted keyword in the heading.
• Sub-headings should be under H2.
• Capture the targeted or related keywords in the sub-heading

Content

• Use the exact targeted keyword once / twice in the top 200 words.
• Use the targeted keyword phrases effectively and do not repeate the keyword phrases more than 4-5 times in any page.
  
• Try to include the keyword phrases within the hyperlink itself.
  
• Try to include the keyword phrases in the text that immediately preceeds, or follows the hyperlink.

Images - Alt Tag

• Use keywords for naming the image files.
• Be sure to use the keyword phrases that are used in the the page, file name, title tag, meta description, and other tags.
• Do not try to cram a bunch of keywords into the "alt" attribute. Use 2-3 keywords per image.
• Describe the image - do not just list keywords.
• The "alt" attribute is also a good place for plural keyword phrases that are not used elsewhere in a page.
